How to File a Freedom of Information Act Request or FOIA

The Freedom of Information Act is a powerful tool in immigration law.

Under the Freedom of Infromation Act or FOIA, individuals or organizations have a legal right to request and obtain information from the United States Government. Under FOIA, Federal agencies are required to disclose any information requested under the FOIA unless it falls under one of nine exemptions which protect interests such as personal privacy, national security, and law enforcement.

We have added an entire page to this site with information and resources regarding FOIA requests. To learn more about the Freedom of Information Act and to learn how to file a FOIA request visit our FOIA Resources page.
